Successful Closure of the “Generando Sostenibilidad en tu Comunidad” Program

On December 13th, the closure of the Environmental Education Program "Generando Sostenibilidad en tu Comunidad" took place at the facilities of the 15 de Mayo primary school in El Campamento, Santiago, BCS.

Organized by the Costa Palmas Foundation and conducted from October to December 2023, this program made a positive impact on 56 3rd and 4th-grade students at the school.

Over three months, Biologist Marianela González, a graduate of UABCS, conducted 11 sessions. During these sessions, students engaged in interactive activities covering various environmental education topics. Through games and enjoyable activities, they learned about the benefits of the sea, marine fauna, and emblematic species of the region. Topics such as sources of pollution, with a focus on solid waste, the importance of mitigating the effects of pollution, recycling, the benefits of crops for self-consumption, support for local production, as well as the origin of potable water, and the need for responsible use, were explored.

At the closing event, each student received a diploma in recognition of completing the "Generando Sostenibilidad en tu Comunidad" Environmental Education Program. Additionally, the Costa Palmas Foundation was honored with a diploma of appreciation for their "valuable contribution to the academic development of our students, recognizing their hard work and passion in promoting environmental education."

Following the diploma presentation, students enjoyed a gathering that included "bollitos" and fresh drinks to celebrate their program graduation. In addition to this festive gesture, the Costa Palmas Foundation distributed three piñatas filled with sweets and backpacks with school supplies to those children who needed them the most.

The program's closure was a significant event, and at the Costa Palmas Foundation, we are profoundly grateful for the dedication and interest demonstrated by all participating students. We eagerly look forward to the possibility of continuing similar projects and further contributing to the advancement of environmental education in the region.
