Summer vacations present a wonderful opportunity for kids to immerse themselves in a world of exciting and enriching activities. Understanding this, Fundación Costa Palmas collaborated with the Instituto de la Cultura y las Artes of La Ribera and the Instituto del Deporte del Municipio de Los Cabos (INDEM) to organize a Summer Camp called "Verano Activo" for the children of La Ribera and neighboring towns.
The main objective of Verano Activo was to provide children with a holistic experience, blending sports, recreation, and culture. Over two weeks, from July 17 to July 28, approximately 70 kids between the ages of 6 and 12 years old embarked on a journey filled with joy, learning, and memorable moments.
The active support of volunteers from Costa Palmas, including Baja Med (paramedics), the Kids Club team of the Costa Palmas Beach Club, and the team of Mozza, made this summer camp a truly remarkable event. These volunteers lent their expertise and enthusiasm to create an unforgettable experience for the young participants.
Verano Activo offered an array of captivating activities that catered to different interests and encouraged learning through fun. The kids had a chance to make a positive impact on their community by engaging in activities such as "Painting the world that we want," where they painted large trash cans to be donated to the local community. Through this, they gained insights into the importance of sea pollution awareness and the significance of trash separation.
Another thrilling activity was the "Superhero Workshop," where the paramedics from Baja Med conducted a small first aid course. The kids had the opportunity to explore an ambulance, try on firefighter uniforms, and practice CPR on mannequins. As a grand finale, they participated in a rescue simulation with their eyes closed, experiencing the life-saving actions of real superheroes.
The fun and learning didn't stop there! Verano Activo offered a diverse range of activities, including tie-dye t-shirt painting, a mini Olympics circuit with various challenges and obstacles, and a delightful Mini Master Chef experience at Mozza. During the Mini Master Chef session, the kids got to prepare their own pizzas, from making the dough to adding toppings, and then enjoying their culinary creations. They also had refreshing drinks and played board games, adding to the joyous moments they shared.
Not forgetting the importance of community involvement, the camp also focused on improving the multi-purpose court through collective efforts. The kids actively participated in painting and sanding the playground equipment, making it more enjoyable and safer for everyone.
They also collaborated with the Ecological Department of Ribera to plant 30 trees and plants, beautifying the public space and learning about the significance of environmental conservation.
The Instituto de la Cultura y las Artes provided avenues for creativity and imagination through kite flying, crafting pencil holders, painting rocks, and exploring the world of recycled art.
To keep the young participants physically active and enthusiastic about sports, the Instituto del Deporte del Municipio de Los Cabos offered swimming, Pickleball, and Baseball five, sparking the competitive spirit and fostering camaraderie among the kids.
As the camp came to an end, a heartwarming closing ceremony took place, where children and parents alike participated. Each child received recognition for their active participation in the activities. The celebrations continued with a delightful gathering, where pizzas, juices, and goodie bags added to the joyous atmosphere.
Verano Activo 2023 truly lived up to its name, providing an active, enriching, and enjoyable summer experience for the children of La Ribera. As the camp concluded, the organizers and volunteers expressed their gratitude to the kids and parents for making it a grand success. We eagerly look forward to the next year's camp, anticipating even more exciting adventures and educational opportunities to be shared with the children of the community!
