Enhancing Public Spaces: Inauguration of Santa Cruz Park

Fundación Costa Palmas remains steadfast in its mission to uplift and enrich the lives of the local community. In a remarkable display of dedication, the foundation spearheaded the renovation of Parque Santa Cruz, a beloved public space in the region. On July 10th, a momentous opening ceremony marked the completion of this transformative project.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals, including Victor Manuel Castro Cosío, Governor of the State of Baja California Sur; Prof. Oscar Leggs Castro, Municipal President of Los Cabos; Local Deputy Cristian Abundes Gomez; Blanca García Gonzalez, Sub Delegate of Santa Cruz; Miguel Gonzalez Mijares, Delegate of La Ribera; and Ruth Díaz Gurria, President of the Costa Palmas Foundation. Their attendance demonstrated their commitment to the betterment of the community and their appreciation for this vital initiative.

The Costa Palmas Foundation, in partnership with Miguel de la Torre Arquitectos, MTA, and Construction & Project Managers Asociados, CPMA, undertook the restoration of Santa Cruz Park to benefit the local community.

Improvements were made to a 1620-square-meter area of public space, which involved land cleaning and repairs, provision of health and hydraulic services, construction of a pergola walkway, installation of public toilets, electrical installations, lighting enhancement, landscaping and gardening, perimeter installations, furniture construction, and children's play areas.

Fundación Costa Palmas led this project intending to rejuvenate park facilities while considering the needs of the community through engagement with the main stakeholders in Santa Cruz. The input of community members, both young and old, was of utmost importance in realizing this project. They determined their requirements and desires, and their sense of ownership will ensure the endurance of this facility in the long run.

Ruth Gurría stated, "It is vital to acknowledge that this park was created through teamwork, involving municipal and state authorities, as well as private enterprises. The design was developed in collaboration with the community including mothers, children, and young adults. Multiple meetings were held to gather their feedback and identify the needs for this space. We are grateful for your support and the opportunity to give back to this generous community. We hope that everyone can enjoy this new public space.”

"We have fought for many years for this country to change, for investors to have the opportunity to thrive, and for development to be equitable", expressed Governor Victor Manuel Castro Cosío, and continued: "I am grateful to Costa Palmas, a company with an important social vision, for their contribution today to a park in Santa Cruz for children. They are a socially responsible company, and I am delighted to see everything they have provided and will continue to provide to this community.”

This accomplishment aligns with the Costa Palmas Foundation's decade-long commitment to promoting the well-being of children and the local community. And it provides a solution that will significantly enhance their quality of life and the social, intellectual, and cultural environment for all.
