For the second year in a row, Costa Palmas Foundation participated in the Traditional Festivities of La Ribera. Similar to the previous year, it supplied official shirts to all participants of the La Ribera 2023 Fishing Tournament, which took place on Saturday, August 12th, and included 61 teams, each made up of 4 fishermen and their crew members.
This tournament holds particular significance as it bolsters the culture and traditions of the fishing community in La Ribera, while also promoting sustainable fishing practices, as participating teams are obligated to adhere to the minimum weight requirement for each species (Marlin: 200 pounds; Dorado: 20 pounds; Tuna: 30 pounds). In addition, all the caught fish during the tournament are generously donated, with 100% of the proceeds going to DIF (National System for Integral Family Development) for the Popular Kitchens and Integral Service Units Program (COPUSI) in the public schools of La Ribera.
Warm congratulations are extended to the triumphant teams! The TKZ team achieved first place in the Black Marlin category, with a 365-pound black marlin. In the Tuna category, the Vagos Bar team secured second place with a 75.7-pound tuna.
During the festivities on the same night, featuring live music and attended by all the fishing teams, a pleasantly unexpected turn of events awaited Costa Palmas Foundation. The organization was bestowed with the "Citizen Recognition Award" by the municipal delegation of La Ribera, in acknowledgment of their unwavering support to the local community. This distinction was presented by the delegate of La Ribera, Lic. Miguel Mijares González, and the Mayor of Los Cabos, Prof. Oscar Leggs Castro.
The celebrations continued on Monday, the 14th, in La Ribera with an event specifically tailored for a younger audience. For this special occasion, Costa Palmas Foundation partnered with the Institute of Culture and Arts of Los Cabos, the Cultural Coordination of La Ribera, and the local DIF to bring an amazing children's show named "Children's Circus of Magic and Light." The captivating entertainment featured a medley of light juggling, handstands, acrobatics, clown performances, giant bubbles, pirate acts encompassing acrobatics and dance, light and juggling displays, magic shows, and LED car wheel acrobatics, all enjoyed by the local kids and their families.
But what made the day even more special much-anticipated enthronement of the king and queen of La Ribera on the main stage of the Traditional Festivities. This year's unique selection process for the king and queen was based on their collection of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and Aluminum recyclables. With just four participating children, an impressive total of 5 tons was amassed collectively. Congratulations to Carlita, Robertito, Camila, Nicole, and their families!
The Costa Palmas Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to the La Ribera community and its authorities for granting us the opportunity to actively participate and collaborate in these significant events. We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to persistently striving for the betterment of the La Ribera community.
